Frequently Asked Questions
How are the teachers organized?
Each teacher is organized by their concentration (e.g. instrument, vocal type, etc.) and then further by their years of experience. Teachers with more years of experience are placed higher on the lists than those with lower years of experience, and are organized alphabetically after that.
Why are some teachers included under multiple categories and not others?
The database admins have allowed teachers who are double music majors (students who have taken private lessons on two instruments throughout their time at JMU) and teachers who have played multiple instruments on their senior recital to be placed under the categories for multiple instruments.
Who do I contact if I have questions about a teacher?
Please contact the individual teacher with all questions, comments, and concerns regarding lessons. JMU NAfMEC is not responsible for contacting teachers on a student's behalf.
Why was this database created?
This database was created in January 2017 by JMU Seniors Emily Ranttila, Allison Satterwhite, and Smith Waylett to provide musical resources to students and music directors in Harrisonburg and the surrounding area. The database allows students and music directors to choose a teacher that best fits their individual needs and provides a simple way to contact their future teachers.
Is the information on this database current?
All information has been updated as of March 29, 2017.
How can I be put on this database as a teacher?
Participation in the database is open to any music major at JMU. If you are a music major at JMU and wish to be included in this database, please email Allison Satterwhite at [email protected].
